Jill Bradley-Levine Sabbatical Lecture

December 08, 2021

You are invited to the next event in the 2021-2022 Teachers College Dean’s Lecture Series, which takes place on Thursday, December 9, from 2-3 p.m., in TC 1008, with Dr. Jill Bradley-Levine’s Sabbatical Lecture: “Promoting Teacher Advocacy as Critical Teacher Leadership.”

In this presentation, Dr. Jill Bradley-Levine will critically explore the meaning and practice of teacher advocacy, and the ways teachers integrate advocacy into their daily professional activity. She will illustrate through advocacy with and for students who are traditionally marginalized, how teachers demonstrate a model for critical teacher leadership.

Dr. Bradley-Levine developed the grounded theory introduced in the presentation through five ethnographic case studies completed over four years. She used findings from these studies to support a theory for teacher advocacy as a practice of critical pedagogy, collaborative leadership, and ethical leadership, and propose a theory of critical teacher leadership.

Dr. Bradley-Levine is an associate professor of Educational Studies. Her research has centered on the professionalization of teaching around three areas: (1) the development of and participation in communities of learning, (2) teacher agency through leadership initiative, and (3) instructional innovation.
