Janay Sander Sabbatical Lecture

March 16, 2022

You're invited to the next event in the 2021-2022 Teachers College Dean’s Lecture Series, which takes place on Thursday, March 17, from 2-3 p.m., in TC 1008, with Dr. Janay Sander’s Sabbatical Lecture: “Police in Schools: What Does the Research Say?”

The topic of police in schools is complex and polarizing and is relevant to efforts of promoting equity for students and providing safety in schools. Dr. Janay Sander will share the results of her research into what the physical and psychological impact of police in schools is, and how that impact differs based on the race and culture of the students. She will share insights into student outcomes associated with police in schools, what school leaders need to know, and recommended practices for schools that will foster academic success, equity, and public safety.

Dr. Janay Sander is the Director of the PhD in School Psychology program and has been at Ball State University since 2012. In addition to her work in higher education, she is a licensed psychologist in Indiana. Her expertise is in the intersection of emotional, behavioral, and learning concerns in children and adolescents. She is particularly interested in conducting research about evidence-based interventions to reduce disproportionality and address the educational and mental health needs of youth who come in contact with juvenile justice systems.
