Introductory Piano Instruction Available – Fall 2025

April 29, 2025

The School of Music will offer limited introductory piano instruction for students during the fall 2025 semester through the Piano Pedagogy Program. All lessons and classes are in the Hargreaves music building. Please note that all students under age 18 will need to have an adult present for any lessons or classes – minors cannot be unaccompanied.

There are several options:

1. Children’s Piano Quest Class, an introductory class for children ages 6-8: Tuesdays 5:00-5:50 pm for 10 weeks beginning in the 5th week of classes. The tuition fee is $150, which includes 10 classes and all introductory music materials. The class is taught by Dr. Lori Rhoden with assistance from BSU students taking the MUSP 425/525 Elementary Piano Pedagogy and Literature course.

2. Beginning individual piano instruction: available for older children and adults, scheduled at the convenience of students and teachers. The tuition fee is $150, which includes 10 weekly half-hour lessons and introductory music materials as appropriate to the level of the student. The lessons are taught by BSU students in the MUSP 425/525 Elementary Piano Pedagogy and Literature class, under the supervision of Dr. Lori Rhoden.

Individuals interested in participating in the program will need to schedule a short interview. Students under age 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them at the interview. For more information, please contact Dr. Lori Rhoden, Professor of Music Performance and Coordinator of Piano Pedagogy and Group Piano, at 765.285.5449 or lrhoden@bsu.edu. Interviews will be scheduled during May or at the beginning of the fall semester. The number of students accepted will depend upon the number of BSU students registered for the MUSP 425/525 course.
