The Introduction to Game Design seminar is open to all students from any major. In this course, we will take a systems perspective to understand what makes games work. This means we will look at how the rules, story, art, and even marketing of a game contribute to how games are learned and played. We will focus on tabletop games which means that neither programming nor art background is required. At the end of the semester, you will have created your own original game that represents what you learned during the semester. What you learn from this seminar will be applicable to anything you wish to design in the future, including tabletop games, video games, sports, or even gamified courses and training.

The course number is CS439 and the class meets Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30. The seminar is being led by Dr. Paul Gestwicki, who has been working with multidisciplinary undergraduate teams to create original video and board games for the last ten years.
