Important Updates to On-Campus Parking for All Faculty, Staff, and Students.

February 22, 2024

The Office of Parking Services strives to make parking as easy and convenient as possible for everyone. To aid students, faculty, and staff with parking, we are providing the following reminders and updates on parking enforcement.

·         University-owned vehicles:  Did you know, if you are driving a University vehicle, you are not restricted to the service vehicle-only spaces?  Operators of University vehicles may park in any regular red restricted lot, yellow faculty/staff lots, the green commuter lots, and the stadium lot. Additionally, parking is allowed at building loading docks while actively loading and unloading. However, University-owned vehicles are not authorized to park in departmentally reserved spaces. Please visit the following link for additional University vehicle parking regulations (University Vehicle Policy).

  ·         Everyone: Overnight parking in green commuter lots is not allowed any day of the week or weekend.   Overnight parking in any parking garage is not allowed Monday through Friday unless you have the proper housing pass.  Meters do not permit overnight parking.  Parking in bus pull- offs and or use of hazard lights to run errands is considered improper parking.  Effective January 7, 2024, University Police (UPD) and Parking Services began issuing warnings for these parking violations to increase awareness of parking expectations. Overnight parking warnings issued in commuter lots were high.  These warnings will soon be followed by citations for people who continue to violate the posted parking regulations.

·         In an effort to maintain consistent enforcement of University parking regulations, UPD is monitoring loading docks and sidewalks during non-business hours.   Please remember that loading docks are for active loading and unloading for 20-minute intervals.

·         There will be increased enforcement on vehicles parked on sidewalks and in drives. This includes the Emens circle, Music Instruction Building and Sursa circle, and all sidewalks and loading docks.

Parking on campus is a shared responsibility of everyone in the Ball State campus community. All drivers are expected to take ownership for the manner in which they operate and park their vehicle while on campus property. The safety of pedestrians is of utmost importance, and adherence to parking regulations plays a role in keeping pedestrians on campus safe. Therefore, all drivers on campus property are subject to citations for violations of Parking Services rules or regulations.

Thank you for your cooperation and adherence to these parking guidelines.
