Position Name: Academic Mentor for Student Athletes

POSITION INFORMATION

Job Description: Graduate students only, open to masters or doctoral students. Student Athlete Support Services is looking for individuals who have an interest in higher education, sports administration, education, social work, and/or counseling psychology to assist with an objective and hourly based study table program. Academic Mentors will be responsible for:

? working (virtually) with student athletes as they accomplish their academic commitments.

? Facilitate understanding and independence in time management, note taking, and written oral communication skills.

? Complete weekly objective sheets, student athlete meeting reports, and regular communication with coordinators.

? Attend orientation at the beginning of term and regular training sessions throughout the term.

? Following all NCAA, MAC, and Ball State rules with the highest level of academic integrity.

Job Qualifications: Applicant must be pursuing a master's or doctoral degree at Ball State University, be in good academic standing, and above a 3.0 GPA (if in 1st semester of graduate program, must have undergraduate 3.0 GPA). Applicants should be outgoing, have superb communication skills, excellent time management, and organizational skills. This position expects workers to be detail oriented, flexible, able to solve problems, and think critically. All staff are expected to uphold academic integrity and confidentiality policies at all times. Special interest will be placed on applicants that have experience in peer tutor, academic coaching, or working one on one or in small groups with at risk student populations. Graduate students who already have graduate assistantships in other departments on campus for 20 hours a week, are eligible to work an additional 9 hours in this position. Desired Start Date: August 27th (In Addition to a one day training session)

Approximate hours per week: 9-20 hours (depending on your availability and our need)

Required Work Schedule Arranged: Typical semester hours are Sunday - Thursday 6:55 pm - 10 pm (with possibility of daytime hours if the need should arise). Currently, we are adjusting our office hours to better suit the needs of our students during the upcoming Fall semester, so hours are subject to change (but should remain consistent throughout the semester once they are defined).
