Humanities Grant Reviewers Needed – Respond by July 1

June 16, 2021

Sponsored Project Administration (SPA) is offering an excellent opportunity to humanities faculty.

Volunteers are needed to be National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) reviewers for Ball State. Serving as a grant reviewer is an excellent way to learn about the grant process and become familiar with a particular grant program. In addition, becoming a grant reviewer is one of the best ways to prepare for the development of a grant proposal.

SPA is looking for faculty reviewers for the NEH Summer Stipend internal review committee. Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars and general audiences through the production of articles, books, digital materials, or other scholarly resources. Per NEH guidelines, Ball State may only submit two faculty proposals. The internal deadline is August 20 (agency deadline is September 22). The review committee will identify the two Ball State proposals to move forward.

SPA coordinates this committee to review and select the proposals that will go on to the NEH. Reviewers are given a week to evaluate the submissions (usually 6-10 applications), then, if needed, convene for one 60-minute meeting late in the week of September 1st to decide which proposals should move forward. The internal review process is via InfoReady competition space, and anonymous reviewer feedback will be provided to each applicant. The full guidelines can be found at https://www.neh.gov/grants/research/summer-stipends.

Of course, if you are planning on submitting a proposal this year, you would not be able to act as a reviewer.

If you are interested or need further information, please contact Sarah Lee (slee@bsu.edu), Senior Proposal Manager, Sponsored Projects Administration.

Please respond by 7/1/2021.
