Guidance for Principal Investigators and Days of Beneficence

December 08, 2023

The University will be closed for Days of Beneficence December 21, 2023 at 3 PM through 8 AM January 2, 2024.

SPA recommends investigators take note and plan ahead and as much as possible.

During Days of Beneficence, SPA staff will not be available for questions or to review and approve workflow items. Any SPA-assisted matters (see examples below) should be completed early, including:

  • SciQuest requisitions
  • Travel approvals
  • JV’s that transfer expenses onto grant accounts
  • Independent Contractor agreements
  • Notification of changes in planned effort or compensation paid from grants
  • EPAFs for Spring hires/changes
  • Any requests for University signature on documents, such as award agreements, data use agreements, etc.

Please Note:
Expense workflows and agreements undergo multiple unit reviews and approvals, often including a university signatory. As a reminder, in addition to these various approvals, neither SPA nor Departments can sign agreements and contracts on behalf of the University. Please be mindful and allow plenty of time for the appropriate approvals.

The bottom line:
SPA is one of many approvers in workflow processes. Last minute requests may not be reviewed until after the university re-opens January 2nd. Please initiate these processes as soon as possible.
