Are you passionate about education, mentorship, and student success? Join the Student Athlete Support Services (SASS) team as a Graduate Assistant, where you'll play a vital role in fostering an impactful learning environment for BSU student athletes.

Overview

As a Graduate Assistant, you’ll work closely with our Learning Specialist and Sec.to Director to support at-risk student athletes, helping them develop essential academic skills such as organization, time management, and effective study habits. This role also provides leadership opportunities, as you’ll help oversee and support our team of hourly student mentors while collaborating with full-time staff.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one and small-group academic support to student athletes.
Assist students in navigating academic expectations and developing positive study habits.
Offer leadership and guidance to hourly student mentors.
Collaborate and communicate with full-time staff to enhance student support programs.
 

Position Details

Time Frame: Fall 2025 – Spring 2027 
Compensation: 
Stipend: $5,500 per semester (11,000 total for Fall & Spring).
Opportunity to work up to 9 additional hours per week within SASS at $12/hour (pending Director and Program approval).
Occasional summer work available at the hourly rate of $12/hour.
Tuition Waiver: 
Tuition costs covered (does not include program fees, which vary by program).
Summer tuition coverage may also be available.
Commitment: Assistantships are renewed each semester and based on performance.
Work Schedule: 
Up to 20 hours per week with a mix of day, evening, and potential for Sunday evening shifts.
Standard hours: Monday – Thursday (9 AM – 9 PM); Sunday (4 PM – 8 PM).
 

Minimum Qualifications

Must be accepted into a master’s program at BSU prior to start date.
Strong academic skills, leadership experience, and a passion for supporting student success.
Attention to detail is a must.
 

Preferred Qualifications

·         Previous peer-mentoring is a plus.

·         Experience with MS Office, Excel, Google Docs, Navigate. 

·         Strong ability to prioritize tasks effectively and demonstrate excellent follow-through to ensure responsibilities are       completed in a timely and thorough manner
