Project Overview:
- Project Title: An Archaeological Survey of Salamonie River State Forest, Wabash County, Indiana (Historic Preservation Fund Grant)
- Project Description: The project involves conducting a Phase Ia archaeological survey (shovel test probes) across ~40 acres within Salamonie River State Forest. The site includes a bluff along the Salamonie River, where there is potential for precontact artifacts and a historic mill to be surveyed.
GA Position Details:
- Project Period: Fall 2025 (renewable for Spring 2026 based on performance)
- Work Commitment: 320 hours per semester (20 hours per week)
- Pay: $5,500 stipend per semester + tuition waiver (student is responsible for fees)
- Supervisors: Archaeologists Hannah Ryker and Dr. Kevin Nolan
GA Responsibilities:
- Analyze archaeological field data (artifacts, spatial GIS data, and field notes).
- Create maps using ArcGIS Pro.
- Conduct research and co-author both a technical report and a summary journal article.
- Deliver a public presentation in Spring 2026.
Required Skill & Qualifications:
- Documented research and writing ability.
- Background in archaeology or a related discipline.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
- proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Preferred Skill & Qualifications:
- ArcGIS experience (preferred but not required).
- Availability for summer fieldwork.
- Commitment to both Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters.
