Get the Most Out of the Communications Center! Tips and Tricks to Use the Comm Center More Effectively

May 04, 2023

The Communication Center helps get your information about courses, workshops, events, student jobs, research, and much more out to the campus community. Here are a few helpful tips and reminders to make it work effectively.

Subscribers can receive information via email immediately, daily, weekly, or not at all. The default is a daily digest received each morning of the articles published before 3 p.m. the previous business day. Articles will post to the Communications Center website at the date/time selected by the publisher.

  • Refrain from using language like “today” or “tomorrow” in your messaging. It will always be incorrect somewhere, either for subscribers who get it immediately or on the website. Please use dates for your events and make them prominent in the article and title.
  • For any dated events, always use the expiration date feature. If you do, you can avoid outdated information going out to subscribers.
  • Because the system is subscription-based, you must select categories for your article. You can pick as many as you like, but please choose only those relevant to your article. Even if you have access to ‘Jobs for Students,’ if it isn’t specifically about jobs for students, that should not be a selected category.
  • Do not confuse your category with your audience. The category column is who you are and what your article is about. Your audience, in the next column, is whom you are targeting.
  • All published articles must be campus related. Posts about neighborhood rummage sales, lost pets, etc., will be deleted.
