September 18, 2025

Looking for a fun class that lasts for just five weeks this fall? You’re in luck!

UrbanPlan is an interactive simulation that demonstrates how projects get built in cities. Whose voice is heard? How are decisions made about zoning and land use? What are the costs and trade-offs of public/private real estate development projects?  Experience challenging issues and economics in play while your group works to propose realistic land use solutions.

Instructor Ben Houle is owner of LandWorx, an Indianapolis based consulting company focused on public/private development. Ben has 20+ years’ experience with complex development projects from concept through implementation. He is a certified instructor of the UrbanPlan simulation, which was created by the Urban Land Institute.

This on-campus class begins Oct. 30 and meets for five Thursday evenings during the last five weeks of the semester. No prerequisites are needed. The Department of Urban Planning invites students from any major to enroll.

Undergraduates can register for PLAN 478 (crn 37239) and graduate students can register for PLAN 578 (crn 37243).
