FREE Tax Preparation for Eligible Students & Employees

February 18, 2020
Students, employees, and families of Ball State University and Muncie Community Schools, are invited to sign up for free tax preparation through the VITA program. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a federal program available to individuals and married couples with an income of less than $56,000 per year.

Your tax filing will be prepared by Ball State accounting students, who must complete many hours of IRS-certified training and exams before becoming VITA volunteers. All tax filings are reviewed for accuracy by an experienced tax preparer, and returns will be filed electronically for faster processing, and with direct deposit, taxpayers often receive refunds in two weeks or less.

New this year, taxpayers who wish to prepare their own return with assistance from the tax preparation team, including a review by an experienced preparer, can visit during any session. This assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
