Fraudulent Emails with Subject Line EMPLOYMENT!!! (INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS)

September 23, 2020
The Office of Information Security has become aware of several instances of a fraudulent type of email targeted at students and promising part time employment as a “temporary personal assistant” or other role. These emails may also indicate the sender is affiliated with Ball State. These emails do not come from anyone affiliated or connected to Ball State University and should be regarded as fraudulent.

One way to recognize these fraudulent emails is several of them use the subject line, EMPLOYMENT!!! (INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS).

Again, these emails are not from anyone associated with the university. Please do not respond to these offers of employment.

If you have already responded, discontinue any conversations with them and do not provide them with any information. If you’ve already provided any sensitive information, such as banking information, credit card information, social security number, etc., you should consider reporting it to the University Police Department at 765-285-1111.

If you are in doubt about the validity of an email, or if you have additional questions, please contact the Technology HelpDesk by visiting www.bsu.edu/helpdesk to submit a ticket or by calling 765-285-1517.
