Fall Special Exhibitions at the David Owsley Museum of Art:

September 08, 2025

This Fall, the David Owsley Museum of Art (DOMA) presents two special exhibitions, both on view September 18 through December 19, 2025.

Cercle et Carré and the International Spirit of Abstract Art explores the influential but short-lived 20th century artistic group "Circle and Square," named after the geometric shapes fundamental to abstract art. This exhibition showcases more than sixty works by thirty of Cercle et Carré’s participants, as well as outlines the formation of the group and its artistic legacy. Cercle et Carré was organized by the Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia, with the addition of works from the David Owsley Museum of Art’s collection.

Indiana Pastoral: The Photography of Lamar Richcreek features nostalgic visual stories of Indiana’s agricultural landscape as captured by the lens of alumnus Lamar Richcreek, who earned a degree in business administration from Ball State in 1969. After a 24-year career in banking, he returned to school, earned an MFA at Vermont College of Fine Arts, and taught for 20 years as an adjunct professor of photography at the Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis. This exhibition highlights Richcreek's creative exploration of the impact of agri-business on Midwestern scenery through surreal and witty photographs.

DOMA director Robert La France will lead an overview tour of both exhibitions at 4:00 p.m. on September 22 for faculty and educators. This tour is free and open to the public with no registration required.
