Eva Zygmunt Sabbatical Lecture

The next event in the 2020-2021 Teachers College Dean's Lecture Series takes place on Thursday, January 21, from 4-5 p.m. with Dr. Eva Zygmunt's presentation: "Authentic Community Engagement and the Development of Culturally Responsive, Socially Just, and Equity-Focused Future Teachers."

Dr. Eva Zygmunt will share the 12-year history of the Schools Within the Context of Community program of community-engaged teacher preparation. The presentation will emphasize the unexpected outcomes along the way, as well as the future direction of this nationally recognized paradigm.

Dr. Eva Zygmunt, the Helen Gant Elmore Distinguished Professor, has worked in the fields of early childhood and elementary education for the last 30 years, with a focus on teaching and learning that is community-engaged, culturally responsive, socially-just, and equity-focused. She is the codirector of the Schools Within the Context of Community program, and the codirector of the Alliance for Community-Engaged Teacher Preparation. Dr. Zygmunt, along with colleagues from Teachers College, edited a book on community-engaged teacher education, which will be published by Teachers College Press in 2021.
