Beginning in January 2026, Ball State University will discontinue its university-wide license for EndNote. Students, faculty, and staff will still have access to EndNote Basic, which is available at no cost. In addition, there are several free and open-source alternatives for citation management, such as Zotero.
If you wish to continue using EndNote, please note that some advanced features—such as library sharing—will not be available with the free Basic version. Individual EndNote licenses may be purchased directly by students or faculty who require the full functionality of the software.
For assistance with technology or software access, please contact the IT Helpdesk at bsu.edu/helpdesk. For help with citation management tools, including selecting or using alternative software, please contact a librarian at libemail@bsu.edu.
