Encourage students to visit the Writing Center!

June 01, 2026

Teaching a summer class? The Writing Center can help your students get extra 1-1 support on writing projects of all kinds, from papers to lab reports to class presentations. In addition to our in-person location in Bracken Library, our tutors are also available for online appointments, making the Writing Center a great option for students in online classes. We're open 12-8 pm Monday-Thursday whenever classes are in session this summer.

Particularly for students in online classes, the Writing Center provides a sense of extra support, community, and contact for writers. During summer months, it's common for students to feel a bit less connected on campus--we're here to help with that! Whether it's getting a second set of eyes on a paper or just talking through ideas, our tutors are ready to help.

We're happy to work with writers from any discipline (our tutors come from English, but also fields like Nursing, Architecture, Theater, and more!) and at any stage in the writing process, whether they're just getting started and figuring out what they want to say or if they're doing final proofreading checks. We also offer accountability sessions, where writers can sign up for a time slot and just work on their projects with the accountability of a tutor on hand to help them stay focused.

You can also require students to visit the Center as part of your course, or provide extra credit opportunities for students who go. Check out our guidelines and sample assignment on our Faculty Resources page for more information.
