BSU-in-Puebla Fall 2024 -- please spread the word to students!

March 11, 2024

Have you heard about BSU-in-Puebla, our brand new semester abroad program? It’s a FULL SEMESTER (Fall 2024) abroad in incredible Cholula, Puebla, Mexico (stop here and google image search it!). It features UCC (core) and intro-level coursework from BSU departments including Spanish, Health Sciences, and Honors College and a fully immersive cultural experience. Here are some more highlights:

  • BSU classes, BSU faculty, BSU students, BSU tuition
  • Hosted by our partner, Universidad de las Americas Puebla (UDLAP)—they are sharing their classrooms, on-campus housing, and super diverse & international community with us. BSU students, but -at- UDLAP
  • Focused menu of BSU classes that are open to all students, taught by a small team of Ball State faculty
  • Spanish offered at all levels including 101—what a perfect way to -actually- learn some Spanish—immersed in a vibrant community with the comforts of fellow BSU students
  • Flexibility to take an online class or two at BSU while abroad—that way students won’t fall behind in their major
  • Includes a three night excursion to Mexico City
  • (this one is important) DOES NOT COST EXTRA! While it’s true that most study abroad programs can cost a lot of money, it’s just not true for this one—remember, this is BSU courses, so it’s also BSU tuition and fees. The program price for BSU-in is roughly equivalent to BSU on-campus room and board. Even when you figure in the flight there, it’s about exactly the same as the cost of a BSU semester on campus!
  • Because it’s BSU classes and BSU tuition, that means just about everything on a student's regular financial aid / scholarships package should apply as normal. Students should check with Cardinal Central on the details that apply to them specifically
  • All BSU undergrads in good academic standing (minimum GPA 2.0) are invited to participate. We can take a maximum of 50 students, first come first served. Application deadline is March 15th, with firm commitments due on April 1st.

It’s no secret that studying abroad can be one of the most meaningful and important decisions in college. While we have lots of different kinds of programs for lots of different kinds of students, we’re especially proud of and excited about this one because it’s immersive, affordable, flexible, and academically and culturally rich. If you work with students who could benefit from this kind of experience, please share the BSU-in-Puebla program brochure with them. This program is designed to include as many types of student as possible, so please help us find the students who might be looking for it! Students who have additional questions can sign up to meet with a study abroad advisor or email their question to studyabroad@bsu.edu-- we'll be happy to chat and/or to connect students with any of the brilliant BSU faculty leading this program!
