Study Abroad in the Netherlands – Summer 2026

Ball State students can participate in the KIIS Netherlands Program (May 20 – June 17, 2026).

KIIS (Kentucky Institute for International Studies) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality international educational experiences through a network of faculty across various disciplines. They offer support for students, including potential discounts and scholarships, to enhance accessibility and ensure a transformative study abroad experience.

Courses Offered: Students select one or two courses from the following options:

  • EDU 400 / HON 300 Topics: Education and Democratic Citizenship in a Global Context: Compares U.S. and Dutch approaches to civic learning, engaging with educators, NGOs, and civic institutions.
  • EDU 400 / HON 300 Topics: Comparative Foundations of Education: U.S. and the Netherlands: Explores the cultural, historical, and philosophical foundations of education, comparing them to U.S. systems.
  • ART 496 Topics: Street Scenes/ Zines Rotterdam, The Hague & Amsterdam: Students will create zines and take photographs while traveling in the Netherlands.
  • ART 430: Graphic Design - Typography & Posters: Explores the world of posters by observing and creating them, studying visual landscapes and their reflection of local culture.
  • IDFM 426: Fashion Design Market Trends: Provides a survey of trend forecasting for fashion and related industries.

All courses can count for Ball State credit with approval.

Program Highlights:

  • Rotterdam (10 nights): Explore innovation, civic identity, multicultural education, and visit the International Institute of Social Studies.
  • The Hague (9 nights): Visit Dutch Parliament with ProDemos, participate in youth democracy programs, and learn from the Hague Academy for Local Governance.
  • Amsterdam (8 nights): Reflect on history and global citizenship with visits to the Anne Frank House and civic organizations.

Excursions & Experiences:

  • Visits to Erasmus University, ProDemos, The Hague Academy, Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Mauritshuis, and Rijksmuseum
  • Place-as-Text explorations of Dutch neighborhoods, architecture, and cultural landscapes
  • Free weekend travel options for personal exploration
  • Group transportation by train and city transit passes included
