All My Friends are Robots: Working with AI on Software Teams
Josh Hurst – Indy Hackers and BSU CS Industry Advisory Board
Abstract: Improvements in Large Language Models have let software teams write software faster than ever. But writing is only one of several steps in the software development lifecycle. This talk covers how small teams used to work, what has changed, and how teams are working today, drawing from first-hand experience building with AI across several startups. You'll leave with a few things you can do to get better at working with AI and other people.
Bio: Josh Hurst has spent 14 years building and scaling engineering teams in cybersecurity, fintech, and B2B SaaS, taking companies from pre-seed through Series A. He now runs
Ridgeline Labs, where he works as a fractional engineering leader for startups and growing software teams. Josh graduated from Ball State's Computer Science program in 2012 and now serves on its Industry Advisory Board. He also serves as Treasurer of
Indy Hackers. He was named to the IBJ Tech 25 in 2021 and is a 2026 Techpoint Emerging Tech Leader finalist. He lives in Fishers with his wife and two daughters, where they play a lot of music and board games.
