Organized by Julie Snider and a dedicated team of teachers and staff, Civics Day 2025 at Muncie Central High School promises to be an inspiring, interactive, and community-centered event. Set for Friday, May 2, Civics Day is designed to immerse students in civic engagement experiences through hands-on learning, community service, and real-world connections with local leaders and professionals.

Learning by Doing: A Day of Civic Exploration

Civics Day invites students to step beyond the classroom and explore what it means to be a responsible and active citizen. With opportunities ranging from job shadowing and volunteer work to on-campus workshops and interactive sessions, students will engage in experiences that connect school learning with real-world civic life.

Morning Sessions: Leading, Learning, and Dialogue
The day will begin with a dynamic series of morning activities, including:

  • Shafer Leadership Academy Workshop (Library): A session on what it takes to lead in today’s society—designed to empower students with leadership tools and confidence.
  • Civic Leaders Panel (Auditorium): Local elected officials will join students for a dialogue on policymaking, leadership, and the responsibilities of public office.
  • Keynote Speaker Brandon Hayes (Cafeteria): Known for his work in public service and advocacy, Hayes will inspire students with stories of perseverance, purpose, and civic courage.

Interactive Demonstrations: In the afternoon, students will participate in teacher-led service projects and civic learning experiences. Activities will be tailored to student interests, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning.

The Student Center will also host booths from community organizations and local businesses, offering resources on:

  • Volunteering
  • Career pathways
  • Youth civic engagement
  • Local work opportunities and employment based initiatives

MCS Students Gain:

  • Exposure to real-world professions and leaders
  • A deeper understanding of democracy and public service
  • Skills in leadership, communication, and critical thinking
  • A network of community connections they can carry forward
