As first announced back in June 2023, many Ricoh printers on campus were nearing their end-of-life support dates. They have now all officially reached their end-of-life support. While these Ricoh devices may still be functioning, continuing to maintain them has become a ‘best effort’ from our support vendor. If you experience printing issues now, there is a strong possibly you may go without printing for an extended period as a repair may or may not be possible. Lead times on new printer purchases and setup are currently running approximately 3 weeks from time of purchase.
If your department still utilizes a Ricoh printer, we would encourage you to plan for a replacement as soon as possible. To help you, we have put together a list of the affected printer models—along with suitable replacement models and approximate replacement costs—in this Technology Knowledge Base article. You can use these budgetary numbers to plan your expenses. Information Technology offers a payment plan over multiple years to assist in acquiring new printers if your department has multiple Ricoh’s that need replaced. Details are in the above Knowledge Base article.
Please note that if you order a new replacement printer and decide to continue using the older Ricoh until it fails, it is necessary to purchase an additional device license at $250 per retained old printer. There is no additional licensing charge if you send the old Ricoh printer to salvage, as the license from the old Ricoh will simply be transferred over and reused during installation of the new printer.
