Call for Papers: Midwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology Annual Meeting

February 02, 2026

On Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, the Music History Unit in the School of Music will host the Annual Meeting of the Midwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology at Ball State University’s Alumni Center.

The conference will feature 20-minute paper presentations followed by 10 minutes of discussion and welcomes submissions on all topics related to music and sound studies. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged, including work that explores music’s intersections with theatre, dance, and performance.

This is an excellent opportunity for faculty and advanced students conducting research to share their scholarship in a supportive, interdisciplinary setting. The deadline to submit a 250-word abstract is Monday, February 23. Notices of acceptance will be sent by March 2. The full Call for Papers can be downloaded here.

Even if you are not planning to present, faculty and students are encouraged to attend. Registration details and additional logistical information will be shared soon.

Ethnomusicology is a broad, interdisciplinary field that examines how music and sound shape and reflect social life, and organizers hope to feature a wide range of perspectives and topics. Those interested in participating in other ways, including serving as a panel chair, or who have questions about the conference, may contact Jeffrey Dyer at jeff.dyer@bsu.edu
