Navigating Academia as an International Scholar: Insights from Faculty Who Have Been There

If you were born or raised outside the United States, you may face unique challenges in academia—adapting to a new culture, building a professional network, and navigating career expectations. But success is possible! We have outstanding faculty of international origin who have built thriving academic careers, and they are eager to share their experiences with you.

Join us for a special faculty panel discussion where international faculty members will share personal stories, discuss the hurdles they’ve overcome, and offer valuable strategies for success in higher education.

  • Opening Remarks by Provost Anand Marri
  • Panelists: Drs. Chin-Sook Pak, Weiwu Zhang, Sotiris Hji-Avgoustis, Shireen Kanakri, and Argnue Chitiyo

This interactive session is your opportunity to ask questions, connect with faculty who understand your journey, and gain insights into making the most of your academic career.

Following the discussion, stay for a networking session where you can meet faculty, fellow international students, and colleagues—all while enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres!

  • Date & Time: Tuesday, April 15, 4:00–6:00 PM
  • Location: Teachers College Room 120
  • Light hors d’oeuvres will be served

This event is sponsored by the TC Inclusive Excellence Committee and the Provost’s Office.
