On Wednesday, April 16, one of the most honored broadcast journalists and documentary filmmakers in the country will discuss and share his award-winning storytelling as part of the National Press Photographers Foundation's Hutchison/Wheeler Lecture series presented by the College of Communication, Information, and Media's Department of Media.
John Sharify is the proud recipient of the Silver Circle award from the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences. He is also the recipient of 79 Emmy Awards, nine National Edward R. Murrow awards, the 2021 DuPoint Columbia award (the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize), and was selected as the National Press Photographer Association (NPPA) Reporter of the Year in 2019 and 2015.
He has worked in newsrooms ranging from New York City to Seattle and has also served as the general manager of Seattle Colleges Cable Television (SCCTV) and Seattle Community Media, the communications manager for Western Governors University, and the Atwood Chair of Journalism at the University of Alaska in Anchorage.
Sharify is experienced in coaching, mentoring, and leading workshops, and will speak starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Art and Journalism Building room 175. Ball State students, faculty, and community members are all encouraged to attend.
