Ball State University Police Department Opens Registration for 2026 Citizen Police Academy

The Ball State University Police Department invites campus and community members to participate in its upcoming Citizen Police Academy, a 10-week program that provides a closer look at campus policing and public safety operations. The academy runs 6-9 p.m. each Wednesday from Jan. 28 through April 8, 2026.

Participants will hear directly from Ball State police officers and take part in hands-on activities covering a wide range of law-enforcement topics, including:

  • Introduction and history of law enforcement
  • The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy testing and hiring process
  • CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) introduction and demonstration
  • Introduction to investigations and evidence collection
  • Emergency vehicle operations
  • Use of force and simulator use
  • Firearms safety and activity
