April 27, 2021

Dear Student-Athletes,

You are invited to participate in a dissertation study titled, “Athletic Identity, Eating, Exercise, & Coping in the COVID-19 Pandemic” (IRB# 1695715-1). Your participation is voluntary. If you choose to participate in this study, you will be asked to respond to questions about your experience as a collegiate athlete, appearance, attitudes toward eating and exercise, and coping skills. While some information may be considered sensitive, your honest response to all questions is requested. All responses will be anonymous.

In order to participate you must be at least 18-years old and be a student-athlete enrolled at a university affiliated with the NCAA. Your participation in this study is expected to take about 20 minutes. Participants may request to have a $1 donation made to The Speedy Foundation, which aims to prevent suicide, support mental health education, and promote conversations to end stigma. This request can be made by answering a question at the end of the survey. In addition, student-athletes enrolled in any CPSY undergraduate class (e.g., CPSY 230, 360, 400, 420, 470, 490) may receive 1 hour of research credit for their participation.

The online survey can be found at: https://bsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8iZIomEGW8M231X
