Associate Dean Patrick Collier to retire in July

April 08, 2024

Please join the Dean’s Office at the College of Sciences and Humanities at a retirement reception honoring Associate Dean Patrick Collier and his 24 years of service to Ball State University.  The reception will be held on Tuesday, April 30th, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Terrace Lounge of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

Dr. Collier came to the Ball State University English Department in 2000, serving as chair from 2018 – 2021.  He served as Associate Dean in the College of Sciences and Humanities from 2021 – 2024 with responsibilities focused on Student Success, Student Affairs, Inclusive Excellence, and Admissions.

A literature professor, Dr. Collier is an accomplished scholar of modernism and early twentieth-century print culture, having published three books and numerous articles and co-edited two essay collections. He co-edited the Journal of Modern Periodical Studies from 2016 to 2022. In recent years his research interest turned to the mysteries of ordinary life: he leads the Everyday Life in Middletown project, which is building a collaborative archive containing journal entries from citizens of Muncie.

Over the course of 21 years in the English Department, he taught more than 15 different courses on topics including film studies and British Literature. His students have gone on to careers as professors, writers, film producers, community activists, and many other fields of endeavor.

Please join us in wishing Dr. Collier all the best as he enters his retirement adventure!
