ML 201: Flavors of the World through Language & Literature Taught in English.

Explore the delicacies of a specific world culture and develop your cultural competence in this interdisciplinary course that takes you beyond the dish to explore the impact of food on various aspects of culture, society, and the community. The study of food and food practices from cultures around the world provides students with an educational experience that offers the opportunity to develop both their critical thinking and cultural competence skills. With a focus on Morocco, this course’s interdisciplinary approach highlights the various ways through which cultural artifacts/traditions may be viewed. The assignments in this course prepare students for higher level academic activities that they will encounter as they proceed in their course of study (critical analysis, teamwork, working with interdisciplinary perspectives, and presenting their findings in an accessible and clear manner). Students will be immersed in the culture of Morocco through short, afternoon field trips within Rabat. Longer field trips on the weekends will include the beautiful city of Chefchaouen, Tangier, and the desert wonder of Merzouga.
