Looking for new ideas to boost student engagement in your courses? Applications are being accepted for the 2025-26 Active Learning Certificate Program. Building on the work of the Interactive Learning Space Initiative (2012-2019) and the Active Learning Academy (2019-2020), participants in the Active Learning Certificate Program will collaborate with peers as they investigate, identify, and incorporate pedagogies that advance higher learner engagement.

The Active Learning Certificate Program is designed in a hybrid format. Learning will take place asynchronously through the program’s Canvas site and during monthly in-person meetings. Throughout the year, participants will immerse themselves in active learning principles through reading, viewing videos, engaging with various resources, and interacting with peers as they:

  • Reflect on their current and future teaching practice and course design.
  • Investigate, identify, and implement active learning principles and strategies for their course(s).
  • Report on their experience in this program and help recruit future participants.

In addition to robust professional development, participants will also receive:

  • Active Learning Certificate recognizing their commitment to professional development and documenting successful completion of the program.
  • $1000 deposit in a Research Incentive Account (RIA) OR as a salary stipend upon successful completion of the program in May 2026.
  • Access to various Active Learning Classrooms across campus that support and enhance active learning pedagogies.

Faculty members holding non-tenure line, pre-tenure, and tenured appointments in any academic unit are encouraged to apply. Additional details including an overview of the program calendar are available in this document
