AI in the Classroom: Uses & Tools Faculty Learning Community – Call for Applications

The Teaching Innovation Team in the Division of Online and Strategic Learning is sponsoring AI in the Classroom: Uses & Tools Faculty Learning Community beginning fall semester 2026 and concluding spring semester 2027.

This Faculty Learning Community is designed as a collaborative, hands-on environment where faculty work with colleagues to pilot AI tools and develop course materials with approved, secure and accessible tools that align with university standards. Sessions will focus on producing practical instructional assets such as curriculum maps, authentic assessments, multimedia learning materials, Canvas course templates, and revised course schedules.

Topics to be explored with the use of instructional assets will include

  • AI Literacy/Fluency
  • Curriculum
  • Course Development
  • Assessments
  • Academic Integrity
  • Research

FLC participants will

  • Investigate potential uses of AI and AI tools in the higher education class;
  • Develop AI instructional assets and practices for their course/s;
  • Implement AI instructional assets and practices in their course/s;
  • Share their findings with the higher education community at Ball State and beyond.

The AI in the Classroom: Uses & Tools FLC is open to full-time faculty (non-tenure line, pre-tenure, and tenured). Selected members should plan to meet on Zoom for 1 ½ hours every three weeks throughout the 2026-27 academic year. Meetings during fall 2026 will occur Thursdays 3-4:30 pm on October 1, October 22, November 12, and December 3. The spring 2027 meeting schedule will be determined at a later date.

Upon successful completion of the FLC and required deliverables, FLC participants will receive $750.00 in a Recognized Incentive Activity (RIA) account or as a salary stipend. Funds will be distributed in June 2027.

The deadline for applying is FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2026. Applicants will be notified regarding acceptance no later than Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The first meeting will be on Zoom from 3-4:30 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
