As part of Microsoft’s revised agreements with universities, Ball State’s total OneDrive storage has been greatly reduced. This requires implementation of new individual and departmental storage limits. Starting this summer, storage quotas for all accounts will start to be reduced and alternate online storage solutions for campus will be provided.
What you need to know:
- All OneDrive accounts (individual and departmental) will be capped at 3GB of storage. Currently, 85% of existing accounts use less than 3GB and will not be impacted by this change.
- Starting this summer, storage quotas in existing student, faculty, and staff OneDrive accounts will gradually be reduced to 3GB, with larger accounts receiving a temporary cap of 10% above their current usage. Those using less than 3GB will be set to 3GB of storage quota. Temporary quota increases will be granted during the transition period.
- For example: If you are currently using 100 gigabytes (GB), your new quota will be 110 GB.
- All new faculty, staff, and student accounts will be automatically capped at 3GB.
IT is currently working to establish alternative storage options for large files, such as video files, and will guide users toward alternate storage options to preserve all digital files as these other options become available.
Although large files such as videos will need to be moved to alternate storage, we continue to encourage the use of OneDrive for Office documents (Word, Excel, etc.). OneDrive is an environmentally friendly option and should be used for document sharing rather than printing, whenever possible.
IT is committed to a smooth transition from OneDrive to other storage solutions without needing to delete digital files. If an increase in OneDrive storage is needed during this transition period, please complete this simple form to request additional space.
Start preparing now:
- Check your current OneDrive storage. On the OneDrive website, view the storage used at the bottom of the left side navigation.
- Delete old or duplicate files.
- Remove all personal files. Storing personal files in Ball State cloud storage is not permitted.
