Here what you need to know about The Writing Center at Ball State:
1) Our general philosophy:
The Writing Center asserts that writing is a lifelong practice; we improve as writers through continuous planning, practice, feedback, accountability, and resources. The Writing Center exists to help ALL writers make forward progress on their writing. We also support writing in its many forms. We consider the “whole” text and we understand that writing is no longer words on a page; it often includes images, sound, charts, design elements, and so forth.
2) We support BSU writers:
The Writing Center supports all Ball State writers – students, faculty, and staff. We have been providing free writing feedback on Ball State’s campus since 1959. We are most well-known for our appointment-based services, and we offer three types of appointments (either online or in person):
+ PLANNING – I’m just getting started and need a plan or ideas
+ FEEDBACK – I want a tutor to walk through my writing with me
+ ACCOUNTABILITY – I want a tutor to be with me while I write or I want a tutor to keep me accountable each week.
We will also host faculty writing time, Faculty Breakfast Club, Friday mornings in the Robert Bell center from 8 to 11 a.m.
3) Our team:
The Writing Center tutoring team consists of experienced undergraduate and graduate tutors from various disciplines who are skilled designers, writers, and composers and who have extensive and on-going training in writing pedagogy.
4) Services we offer beyond tutoring:
The Writing Center also provides support to faculty by offering an updated syllabus statement and Student Guide to the Writing Center Canvas module each semester that you can import into your Canvas class from Canvas Commons. But, we also creating custom workshops for their courses. We’ve done workshops for specific platforms and genres.
5) Where to find us:
